Adoption Procedures

If you feel you would be able to offer a good home to one of our dogs, please take the time to read the following:

  1. We will treat each dog as an individual.
  2. Age, temperament and any issues a dog may have will be considered when looking at home offers.
  3. Prior to re-homing, you will be required to visit the dog together with any existing dogs.
  4. PDR will not re-home dogs to be kennelled outside, or to a home where any existing pet is not neutered.
  5. Dogs under 2 years need someone around, so will not be re-homed where they will be left all day.
  6. Very young children and dogs do not always mix. Therefore we reserve the right to say no to certain dogs where there are children.

The next step is to have a brief, informal telephone interview with one of our volunteers by calling 07929 251244 (no calls after 9 pm please).  This will determine whether your home is suitable.

If the telephone interview is successful, a homecheck will be carried out. This is a simple procedure which involves a volunteer visiting you and any family members in your home to further assess your suitability.

Once the homecheck has been carried out, a final decision will be made and you will be notified as soon as possible. If successful, arrangements will be made for you to collect your new family member.

Wherever possible, we will try to match the right dog to the right home. In some cases we may feel that the dog you are interested in would not be suitable for your particular circumstances. However, there may be another dog waiting patiently for a home just like yours!

A minimum donation to Phoenix Dog Rescue is required on adoption.
